Abstract

This paper focuses on developing a game-based learning environment designed to develop media literacy skills, reduce the consumption of misinformation, and teach fallacy education with general media literacy. This work focuses on educating about logical fallacies as a prevalent form of misinformation in media. By immersing players in simulated scenarios involving fallacious arguments and misinformation, the game shows deceptive tactics used in media content, helping to identify and counter such fallacies. At the same time, the player is asked to find facts for refuting the found fallacious arguments. The study assesses the game’s effectiveness in improving the players’ skills to identify misinformation and fake news - presented as fallacious sentences - through a structured questionnaire and user study. It also explores the alignment of the game with dimen- sions of Bloom’s Taxonomy, showing on its potential to teach higher-order thinking skills.
