Abstract

The integration of Large Language Models into Virtual Reality has emerged as a compelling avenue for advancing the capabilities of immersive virtual environments. By leveraging the immense language generation capabilities of Large Language Models, Virtual Reality experiences can be enhanced through the introduction of intelligent and conversational virtual agents. These virtual agents, powered by Large Language Models, have the potential to greatly enrich user interactions, increase the sense of Copresence, and contribute to an enhanced sense of realism within the Virtual Environment environment. Results from the study demonstrate promising outcomes. Participants reported a heightened sense of Copresence and expressed positive attitudes towards the Large language model-powered virtual agents. The realistic and contextually appropriate responses generated by the Large Language Models contributed to the overall sense of Copresence and engagement within the Virtual Reality environment. Moreover, participants expressed a willingness to continue interacting with Large Language-powered virtual agents in Virtual Reality.
