Abstract
Virtual reality (VR) is becoming an increasingly popular subject in the present time. A VR environment, characterized by realistic-looking scenes and settings, provides users with a sense of complete immersion in their surroundings. Virtual Reality is not only becoming popular but is also an intriguing topic to explore, especially when combined with the concept of Superhuman sports. These sports incorporate elements from traditional sports along with technology to enhance physical ability and overcome the human body’s challenges and limitations. Consequently, the fusion of Superhuman sports with VR has the potential to transform our perception of the world, bypassing physical restrictions and redefining human capabilities. The aim of our study is to develop an immersive VR Superhuman Sports Game environment using our built-in Superhuman Controller and to investigate how superhuman abilities are perceived in different environments and settings. To achieve these goals, we designed a shooting game set in a forest where players battle massive creatures in VR. This forest is presented in two versions: a realistic setting and a Minecraft-style habitat. Additionally, we examined users’ perceptions of superhuman abilities in different contexts using two distinct haptic controllers - the Superhuman Controller and the Oculus Controller. The study involved 24 participants who experienced all four scenarios. The results showed that participants felt most superhuman using the Superhuman Controller in the Realistic World. In contrast, in the Minecraft World with Oculus controllers, they felt least superhuman. This suggests a correlation between feeling superhuman and being in a realistic environment equipped with specialized haptic feedback controllers. In recapitulation, we successfully created an immersive VR Superhuman Sports game environment using our custom-built-in Superhuman Controller.
