Information about the BEMP Master's degree program can be found on our website. Here in this Wiki you will find additional information.
Legal Basis of the BEMP Master's degree program
You can find information on the academic and examination regulation in the Academic and Examination Regulations (Fachprüfungs- und Studienordnung): https://academics.nat.tum.de/en/msc/bemp/legal-basis
The most important points are as follows:
- You must take all four mandatory modules and at least pass two of the four mandatory modules by the end of the 2nd semester.
- Academic progress check (“not more than one year behind“). The credit points have to be from the degree program (no extra courses).
- by the end of the 3rd semester: 30 credit points
- by the end of the 4th semester: 60 credit points
- by the end of the 5th semester: 90 credit points
- by the end of the 6th semester: 120 credit points*
there is only one exemption, if you do not have 120 credit points at the end of the 6th semester, you get a final 7th semester, in which you have to finalize your studies. See FAQ: Academic Progress Check
Please remember that the degree program is intended to have 30 CP per semester. You also can do less or more as you individually like. Please, mind the academic progress check mentioned above.

Registration for the language courses is done via TUMonline. Students who are not yet enrolled can not yet register for courses in TUMonline. However, they can check the Language Center website regularly, some courses may be offered later in the semester.
Students who did not give proof of German language skills will be given the additional requirement to pass at least one module in which they earn German language skills integratively. E. g. this may be fulfilled by a German course of the language center within the general-education subjects. But also other certificates are accepted. The A1.1 level is sufficient. If you like to have the language course also for covering for your general education subject, please register it as a general education subject. It then will be automaticaly also be considered for meeting the requirement. If you register on the requirement knot of TUMonline, then it will not count as a general education subject.
There are different offers for 'German as a Foreign Language'. During the semester as well as block courses in the end of each semester.

A1.1 level is sufficient.
In case you do not get a place within one of the courses offered by the TUM language center, you also might have a look for other course offerings like: Deutschkurse bei der Universität München or virtuelle hochschule bayern (last ones should be free of charge)
Access to Libraries
For access to TUM library, please have a look at https://www.ub.tum.de/en
Please note, access to e-media (e-books, e-journals, etc.) from outside the university network is via eAccess (https://login.eaccess.ub.tum.de), for which students need the TUM ID. Without a TUM ID, unfortunately, you can only access e-media with the PCs in the reading rooms of the library.
You can find your TUM ID within your tumonline account!
The e-access is only available after enrolment in the degree program, since media with costs are made available via this access.

Dear BEMP students,
We would like to share an upcoming opportunity that could complement your academic journey: TUM Climate Ventures, a project-based program for researchers and advanced Master's students to explore how to turn your research into real-world impact.
Over one semester, participants evaluate the commercial viability of their technology and develop a go-to-market strategy, with one-on-one guidance from mentors and access to the University Climate and Energy Ventures (UCEV) network, a global ecosystem connecting academic institutions, entrepreneurship programs, and industry partners, including the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, MIT Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship, and Breakthrough Energy.
Success stories:
Valoron (Sebastian Bastek, Vincent Dieterich and Marcel Dossow from the Chair of Energy Systems): now part of the Breakthrough Energy Fellows program.
Their thermochemical recycling process converts mixed waste into hydrocarbons for various markets in hard-to-degrade industries.
Topotherm (Jerry Lambert and Amedeo Ceruti from the Chair of Energy Systems): currently securing funding for commercial launch in 2027.
They develop optimization software for cost-effective, renewable district heating and cooling network design.
Rapid Resilience (Jan Boeckmann from the Professorship of Optimization and Sustainable Decision Making): recognized with the Bayerischer Klimaschutzpreis for climate protection and adaptation.
They apply AI to enhance urban flood resilience by creating pluvial flood hazard maps and resilience strategies.
Program structure
- Weekly lectures with climate founders, industry experts, and academic partners
- Weekly mentor sessions to drive project progress
- Core focus: customer discovery, techno-economic analysis, and business modeling, culminating in a tested venture concept
Application
- Deadline: September 15th, 2026
- Apply here: TCV WS26/27 Application
