Welcome to the TUM School of Engineering and Design!
To ensure you get off to a successful start in your studies, we support you with a comprehensive onboarding program. Whether through buddy and mentoring programs, central introductory events, or digital tools, you will receive guidance and support right from the start. In addition, you can take advantage of practical courses on learning strategies, time and self-management, or motivation to successfully master the first steps of your studies and start your academic career with a strong network.

Introductory events

At the start of the semester, there are central introductory events for all new students at the School of Engineering and Design. Here you will learn how your study environment works, get to know what the faculty has to offer, and make your first contacts with fellow students.

You can look forward to:

  • A joint welcome for first-year students
  • An overview of all important services offered by ED and TUM
  • Practical tips for organizing your studies and everyday life
  • Exchange with student councils and student initiatives

Skills development for your studies

In addition to orientation in campus life, your personal academic success is also important. To this end, there are practical courses and self-study options on learning strategies, time and self-management, motivation and procrastination. This allows you to approach your studies in a structured manner right from the start.

👉 All content can be found in the accompanying Moodle-Kurs Onboarding ED. (Link for self-enrolment will follow at the beginning of the semester)

Highlights:

  • Self-study modules on key study topics
  • Tips & methods for efficient learning
  • Exchange formats in peer groups
  • Support for getting started in study groups and projects

Buddy- and Mentoring-Program

Having a buddy by your side makes it easier to get started with your studies. Whether you are doing a bachelor's or master's degree, experienced students will accompany you as you take your first steps, help you with questions about the campus and make it easier for you to find your way around everyday student life. In addition, we are setting up mentoring formats with lecturers and peer groups in the coming semesters so that you can build up a good network right from the start.

This programme is currently available for international students from ED. You can find all the information you need here. Kick-off event on Wednesday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the Audimax (downtown).

Your advantages:

  • Personal contact during your first semester
  • Insight into campus life and study organisation
  • Intercultural exchange through international buddies
  • Peer learning and support in study groups

Information and support platform (under construction)

Many questions arise at the beginning – from exam registration to timetables. That's why we are setting up a central platform that clearly bundles all relevant information and supports you with digital tools.

Planned features include:

  • A central website with all study-related information
  • Links to existing TUM services
  • Explanatory videos on typical questions about studying
  • Digital support tools such as chatbots
