Abstract

This thesis discusses three non intrusive sensor systems to measure the liquid level in a cup. An infrared distance sensor, an ultrasonic distance sensor and a frequency dependent capacitive sensor are used on a gadget that can carrie drink container and monitor the water consumption over the day. The benefits of such a gadget in nursing homes are drafted and wireless data transfer between the gadget and the staff is discussed. Different prototype designs for the gadget and the sensor mounting system were 3D printed and are reviewed. Situations in which the sensors struggle are highlighted.
