Abstract

The goal of this master’s thesis is a virtual reality simulation of a hospital room and an adjacent monitoring room. As a digital twin, it is a functional replica based on an existing hospital ward. The vital sign graphs of the patients are simulated live and in line with their conditions and illnesses. Using this virtual environment, tasks and scenarios imitating some of the clinic’s day-to-day processes were developed. They aim at achieving immersion and a sense of presence for the user and conclude in a study among healthcare personnel. This thesis lays the groundwork for further digital twin development in the larger ReduSys project and is therefore created with future expansions in mind. There, it is part of a greater plan to provide digital assistance and relief to clinic staff through new innovations, both for regular operations and under exceptional circumstances.
