Abstract

Facial expression recognition has been an active research topic for many years, with Facial Action Coding Systems (FACS) being among the widely used methods. There are some well-known tools to extract these facial expressions through Action Units (AUs) such as PyFeat and OpenFace. In this guided research, we continue the development of the synchrony hub that has been developed by a previous student in his bachelor thesis “Design and Development of an Open-Source Conferencing Platform for Perceptual Manipulation in Online Experiments”. We design and implement recording features for each participant. We also compare OpenFace and Py-Feat technical performance and design the post-processing room API in the synchrony hub.
