Abstract
Despite a vastly aging society, the focus of video games continues to be on the younger demographic. However, playing video games is not only fun, it can also provide some physical and cognitive benefits for the elderly. In the context of this thesis, a location-based game for smartphones shall be developed, which specifically focuses on elderly players. In GramoGO, players collect fragments of records by actively moving through the real world. The subsequent assembling based on music is supposed to train the mind, after which the records can be played in a relaxed manner via augmented reality. This paper addresses the challenges resulting from the older target group and describes how they can be implemented in a game like GramoGO. Possible further technologies such as those for pedestrian collision detection are also discussed.
