Abstract

With obesity and overweight being world-wide problems, technologies like serious games and augmented reality have gained interest in the context of digital intervention strategies and mobile applications. This thesis aimed to develop a mobile serious game that includes augmented reality features to help its users make better nutrition choices and cook healthy foods at home. To achieve this goal, literature spanning across a variety of topics was reviewed. Those topics include serious games, behaviour change theories, augmented reality, game flow, healthy nutrition and cooking. Mock ups were created to outline the application features derived from behaviour theory models. A gameplay level which allows users to investigate the ingredients and nutrition information for red thai curry, complete a quiz and cook the selected recipe in a mini-game was implemented. Finally, an evaluation approach consisting of a custom questionnaire in addition to a standardised questionnaire such as the SUS or HARUS has been elaborated.
