Abstract

This thesis describes the development of a Serious Game called "Cave Robo", which aims at teaching the basics of programming with Statecharts, a variation of state diagrams. To make progress, players have to create a Statechart diagram for each level, describing the behaviour of a robot. That robot will then solve the given puzzle, in case the diagram is sufficient. The game consist of a diagram editor and a list of puzzles. The concept of the game is influenced by the cognitive load theory and a review article summarizing important aspects of learning games to consider during development. A first prototype was implemented in the form of a customized Minecraft world.
