Abstract

Maintaining a healthy diet has always been a goal to be achieved for establishing a healthy lifestyle. However, one of the key challenges of maintaining a healthy diet is knowing the ingredients of the products and the healthiness of these products when grocery shopping. Even if that is known, another challenge would be comparing products from different manufacturers or learning an alternative for a specific product. These challenges could be solved with little effort now, thanks to the Deep Neural Networks field, allowing object detection and classification with tremendous accuracy. Not to mention one of this decade’s most efficacious technologies, Augmented Reality (AR) allows users to interact over real-world environment with digital or computer information. This study shows that combining Deep Neural Networks and mobile Augmented Reality could aid in establishing better nutrition and improve decision making while shopping in the supermarket. This will be achieved by displaying score above the products and suggesting a product with the optimum nutritional value from the viewed products.
