An event of the TUM Graduate School
When: Wednesday, 17 December 2025
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Where: Ground floor, TUM Graduate School, Boltzmannstr. 17, 85748 Garching
Being the first in your family to study and then pursue a doctorate? Statistics show that this is still far from being a given. First-Generation Academics are less likely to start a degree after high school – and by the time they reach the doctoral phase, the proportion of First-Generation Academics decreases even further.
First-Generation Academics in the TUM community have already overcome many challenges and paved their own way. With our event format for doctoral candidates, we aim to further support First-Generation Academics by creating networking opportunities, discussing potential challenges faced during the doctoral phase, and providing tools to overcome them. The event will include short inputs on the statistical dimensions of this topic, practical tips, and an introduction to support services. Additionally, successful First-Generation Academics will share their experiences, and there will be plenty of time for exchange and networking.
The language of the event is English.
Number of participants: 40
