we would like to inform you that GC-ED online workshop “Edge & Federated Learning” (09.07.-10.07.2026 from 09:00-16:00) has a few open spots that we Gc-ED would like to offer to the members of GC-CIT.
This workshop provides an overview of decentralized machine learning at the edge (edge computing) and federated learning. It covers the differences between cloud, edge and federated learning with a focus on IoT, data protection and resource constraints. Practical methods for model optimization and deployment on edge devices are presented and practiced. The architecture, algorithms and data protection techniques of federated learning are explained.

Scientific Writing Retreat during summer school holidays
When: 17 – 20 August 2026
Who: Doctoral candidates with and without children
Fee: 60 EUR (plus 10 EUR material allowance per child)

The process of writing a publication or dissertation, in particular, can present doctoral candidates with a variety of challenges that lead to a lack of motivation and increased procrastination. The 4-day Scientific Writing Retreat provides strategies for planning scientific papers efficiently and gives participants the opportunity to make progress on their manuscripts under professional guidance and writing coaching and to benefit from the exchange with other writers. As a special offer for doctoral candidates with children (2-10 years), the writing workshop takes place during the Bavarian summer school holidays. While the parents concentrate on their writing projects, their children are cared for by the professional childcare provider Kids in Munich, at the same location as the writing course on all four course days.
The workshop is open to all doctoral students (including those without children) and may be of particular interest to doctoral students who are busy during the lecture period, as it takes place during the break between semesters.
