Abstract

In this thesis, the serious game "Dragon Tale" was extended with a new level, that will teach the player the Japanese numbers from one to ten by solving four minigames. The difficulty of those challenges is observed and adjusted by a newly implemented Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment (DDA) system. The purpose of this project was to research whether such a system can help to keep the player in balance between not being overwhelmed by the tasks and not being bored. The user should be encouraged to continue using the serious game to learn useful new skills while having fun playing. A user study with 15 participants was conducted to answer predefined research questions and get a general feedback from the testers.
