Abstract

A rogue like dungeon crawler set in a laboratory, with a unique sound based orientation

Project Description

For the course Audio for Games our team made a dungeon crawler based on "The Binding of Isaac". We worked on it for a month and made all the assets and music ourselves.

Story

Imagine one day the world just ends. The aliens have finally found us and want our planet.

You are a tiny robot specifically built for the purpose of eliminating those aliens. Now it is on you to upgrade your weapons, fight the evil aliens and use your extraordinary acoustic senses to orient yourself in the maze, that are the ruins of the laboratory, that you were built in.

Defeat the final boss and escape to help out humanity!

Controls

The game can be played both with a controller as well as mouse and keyboard.

You shoot with the arrow keys / the right stick / the ABXY buttons.

You move the player with WASD / the left stick.

Audio

The unique selling point of the game is the sound mechanic. Depending on what rooms are located around you, the music changes.

For example, if there is an enemy room a kick gets added to the music. If there is an item room nearby, you can hear a choir singing.

The closer you are getting to the boss room, the more intense the music gets, which is achieved through vertical layering of the music.

If your health gets too low, the rest of the music becomes more quiet and a warning sound is played.
