Abstract

This Guided Research is based upon the first person horror game “The Facility”, which was developed as part of the Master Practical Course: “Game Design”, under the guiding topic of ‘take cover’. The game itself features four distinct levels, each utilizing different aesthetical and design themes. The player has to traverse and beat at least three out of these four levels to escape the facility and return home. The research focuses on a specific level of the previously mentioned game, combining it with four similar, yet different maps supporting the player. These maps aid the player in traversing the dark and labyrinthine “Sewers” level of the facility. A study was conducted in order to verify our claims and observe possible differences regarding factors such as immersion, usability and player acceptance.
