Abstract

Getting a more intuitive and tangible perspective on complex objects such as architectural floor plans through a 3-dimensional model can be particularly interesting for Architects, Emergency Personnel and Designers. Unfortunately, such models are not always available and especially legacy floor plans from older architectural buildings may only exist in a non-digital 2-dimensional form. In those events, the reconstruction pipeline typically requires the complete remodeling of the object and a lot of manual processing is necessary. Consequently, the manual approach is often resulting in a very time-consuming project. This thesis compares the traditional manual reconstruction approach with a new, more intuitive semi-automated approach to reconstruct the geometry of scanned legacy floor plans.
