Abstract
This thesis shows the development of a concept that creates components, called super-patterns, for a Metroidvania game world with the help of patterns and principles. This concept is supposed to alleviate the initial workload of a game designer during the development process. The Metroidvania genre is initially described and defined to further explore its game spaces in order to build a knowledge-base. This knowledge-base is combined with the concept of patterns to create Metroidvania specific patterns by using an existing pattern model as a template. These Metroidvania patterns establish a foundation that draws from UML components to create super-patterns. Resulting in the concept of super-patterns that encapsulate several patterns into one cohesive unit that can be used to create a Metroidvania game world.
