The degree program consists of four semesters (full-time, 120 ECTS). The curriculum includes foundational courses in AI and data science, programming and data processing, as well as specialized courses on topics such as deep learning, human-AI interaction, and natural language processing. It also includes courses that focus on the societal aspects of AI, such as governance, law and regulation of AI, AI in diverse societies, and elective modules in different societal application areas of AI. Students must complete modules across several areas, combining technical AI foundations with interdisciplinary perspectives on law, ethics, politics, and societal impact. The program prepares students for roles bridging technical AI and societal implications. |

External theses are possible with a faculty member/examiner from SOT as official supervisor and the external advisor must first be approved by the Examination Committee. Make sure you speak with your advising professor at TUM in good time concerning the arrangements for collaboration with the external company or institute. Please submit a confirmation from your external contact stating that they are willing to act as your advisor together with your registration. |

1.1.6. Graduation |

| Graduation Documents, Preliminary Certificate, Disenrollment | |

The graduation date (= certificate date) is the date of the last successfully completed examination and/or coursework. As soon as the last examination has been entered in TUMonline, please check all the details (title of the thesis, personal data) that are important for your graduation documents. The school will then give its approval, and your graduation documents will be prepared by the Graduation Office and Academic Records of the TUM Center for Study and Teaching. It will take approximately 4 to 6 weeks for your graduation documents to be issued ⚠️. Meanwhile, you can download a preliminary certificate in your TUMonline account. You will receive an email as soon as it is accessible. |

Generally, you need to remain enrolled until you have taken your last exam. If the final thesis is your last exam, enrollment is mandatory until completion and submission (date of submission becomes the graduation date then). This also applies if the period for writing the thesis was extended for reasons beyond your control. For all other exams, you do not have to re-enroll if you take an examination that is allocated to the previous semester within the first week of the lecture period at the latest. Disenrollment occurs automatically at the end of the semester, when the final graduation documents are completed. Please check the TUM website for all details! |
