The statutory health insurance in Germany is known as Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung (GKV) and covers the vast majority of people.
In 2021, the general contribution rate to public health insurance is 14,6 % of the gross income. In addition the health insurance funds can set individual supplementary contribution rate.
For employees, the employer pays half of the contribution rate.
