1. Set up the course

  • you need the role “LV-Erhebung”. Sabine and Cosmin already have this role, but if you need to get it as well, fill out the corresponding form and send it to “Infopoint Informatik”
  • There are three possible scenarios:
    • The course was already taught in the corresponding semester in the previous year.
All courses from the corresponding semester in the previous year are copied automatically (i.e. summer to summer; winter to winter).
If they take place again, descriptions and information can be adapted as needed. Then they must be reported for approval to take place.
If a course from the corresponding semester in the previous year will not be taught again, it is sufficient to just not report it for approval.
    • The course was already taught in the previous semester
If a course from the previous semester will be taught again, it is possible to copy it from the previous semester as it is, adapt descriptions and information as needed, and then report it for approval.
For detailed instructions on how to copy courses, please refer to this  document (German only)
    • The course is a completely new one
If the course is a completely new one, the first step is to create the course in TUMOnline.
Once the course has been created, the descriptions (e.g. objective, content, requirements, etc.) for students have to be added and/or adapted
Even without the role “LV-Erhebung”, on your Business Card in TUMOnline you can refer to “Courses” in the tab “Teaching and Research” to get an overview of the required information
  • If you want to use Moodle, you must activate “eLearning” for the course. This will automatically create the course in Moodle. Click here for a short instruction.
  • After creating the course and completing the descriptions, the course must be reported. It will then be approved by TUM.

  • If you register a course after the deadline, inform Magdalena Kozera (courses-cs.asa@xcit.tum.de; extension 17568) about it
  • Late courses and courses that still have open places will be added to a list and published for students to see. They will then have the chance to contact you and request to be added to the course.

2. Info Meeting

  • For seminars/practicals/etc. an info meeting for students must be planned. It usually is supposed to take place about 2 weeks before the Matching Procedure starts
    • Add the date, time, and place/online link for the meeting in your course description
    • Consider either adding the information, that students interested in the course should send you an email stating their interest or creating a questionnaire and sending it to students interested in the course
  • Advertise the course/info meeting in Julias lectures?

3. Matching Round

  • There are always two Matching Rounds. They take place towards the end of the previous semester
    • After each matching round, you can rank the students based on criteria defined by you. You will also be able to download students’ numbers from the matching portal

4. Room

  • You can ask Sabine to do that. She needs to know the day of the week, time slot, and number of people
  • Otherwise, the role “LV-Erhebung” is required
    • TUMonline - INformtik32 - Dieste
    • erster Schritt: suche freie Ressource
    • zweiter Schritt: Organisationstermine - neue Terminserie
    • auf approval des Raumzuständigen warten
  • Seminar raum im gallileo in bsprache mit Daniel Rückert auch meist verfügbar.

5. Register Students

  • you have to register the choosen participants in TUMOnline for the course
    • To register students, there must be a course registration procedure (Anmeldeverfahren)
    • Once the course registration procedure has been created in TUMOnline, you can add students manually by clicking on the icon with the two little men
    • Their initial status will be “Voraussetzungen erfüllt“ and you have to manually change their status to “Fixplatz”. Students will receive an email informing them about their status on the course.
    • Since students are not supposed to be able to register for a course themselves, select one single day as the start and end date for students to register. You will still be able to add and remove students etc.

6. Teaching

  • Plan your first session as a kick-off session where you provide students with all the important information on the course

7. Register students for exam

  • At the end of the semester, you must register students for the exam and enter their grades manually.
  • Registration is supposed to be done at the same time when students are also able to register for lecture exams. T
  • TUMonline unter: Prüfungsanmeldung (ganz untern bei Forschung und Lehre)

8. Grading

  • Assessment takes place after your last session.
    • Apart from Julia, only Sabine (and possibly Cosmin?) currently hold the required role to register students for the exam and enter students’ final grades for the course
    • When sending your grades, organize your list alphabetically – preferably by students’ last name – and also include first name and student number. Make it clear, what the final grade is.
    • If a student receives a “5,0”, also specify, if this is due to bad performance or because the student did not complete the course (e.g. did not show up anymore)
    • Make sure to finalize and submit grading before “Notenschluss”.
