Causes of surgical error

Thousands of surgical procedures are successfully carried out at hospitals around the UK every day. The vast majority are extremely successful and many are considered routine.

Occasionally, however, the surgery is not successful and can leave the patient with either temporary or permanent injury, and tragically in some cases, the outcome is fatal. In many instances, the risks of undergoing surgery are known and explained to the patient, or their family, prior to surgery. An unsuccessful outcome can be the result of those risks and known complications, and no blame can be attributed to the surgeon or his team.

Unfortunately, there are some occasions where the surgery is not successful because of negligence by the surgeon, or the aftercare provided by the medical team. In these circumstances, you or your family may be able to claim medical negligence compensation for the trauma, or injury you suffered as a result of the surgery.
