In cooperation with SMG Technologie GmbH the company of APS Antriebs-, Prüf- und Steuertechnik GmbH (Wille Geotechnik) builds a novel Omnidirectional Simple Shear Device (ODSS-Device). This advanced experimental apparatus allows the loading of a circular soil element by shear strain or shear stress in any direction within a plane x  y up to maximum of 50 mm shear displacement or 35 kN shear force. The actuator controlling axis z allows loadings under constant volume, constant stress or constant normal stiffness. Powerful drives provide the ability for cyclic and dynamic loadings for example to reproduce ground shaking by earthquakes. The mode of deformation is given by simple shear constrained by a laminar frictionless stacked frame incorporating a unique pre-stressing mechanism to confront known test-specific limitations. On we reviewed the ODSS-Device under construction for the second time at the assembly hall of Wille Geotechnik in Göttingen. We proudly look forward the delivery to our laboratory at Zentrum Geotechnik of the Technical University of Munich within the upcoming weeks.
