Registering new telephones is easy: just talk to Gebert. In case it is a bigger number, he'll want to use his barcode scanner to register the telephones' MAC addresses. The information needed for registration is
- name of the person
- extension number (71xx)
- PC-Kennung (kn2a1??)
- eMail address (<name>@universe-cluster.de)
- MAC-Nummer des Telefons (steht auf Verpackung oder Unterseite des Apparats u. beginnt mit 0004 )
- Raumnummer
Then, plug the telephone into the network outlet using the black cable (the cables are not special, they are only connected to the special phone outlets), it does not need power because that is provided by the network switch. Upon the following first boot, the phone will update its software, download new configuration (mainly VLAN tag) and restart. The IP address shown after the restart should start with 138.246.26, otherwise something is wrong with the configuration and you need to talk to Gebert again. The initialization is complete once the telephone number is displayed and the clock shows the right date and time.
In the case of power failure the telephones eventually do not boot any more and the display stays blank. In this case get a extra power supply from the "Archive" and use network + power supply to reboot the telephone (tryed that with success at 3.12.07).
