Who we are?
The TUM Integrative Multi-method Leadership laboratory (TUM-IML) is a junior research group affiliated with the TUM School of Management combining experts from different disciplines including neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and organizational research. We are passionate about finding novel ways to better understand the individual antecedents of leadership. We follow an interdisciplinary approach combining our individual areas of expertise to conduct various experimental laboratory studies to achieve this goal.

What we do?
At the TUM-IML, we work on unravelling the cognitive and neurophysiological underpinnings of effective and ineffective leadership. Therefore, we combine cognitive psychology, and social neuroscience with socio-scientific research on leadership. In our laboratory at the TUM Executive Education Center we have the unique opportunity to investigate experienced real-life leaders in a state-of-the-art psychophysiological laboratory equipped with mobile EEG systems, physiology assessment, eye tracking, and multiple stimulation devices. We, for instance, focus on the role of rule breaking and cognitive conflict in leadership, on how different types of leaders are evaluated explicitly and implicitly, and on how novel technologies (i.e., robots and/or virtual reality) can assist modern-day leadership.

What we expect from you?
To join the TUM-IML for a TUM PREP, you should be interested in understanding leadership and have basic knowledge in either cognitive psychology, neuroscience, or experimental organizational research. We expect you to be a team player, be reliable, enjoy implementing and conducting experimental studies involving EEG and/or eye tracking and enjoy handling, processing, and analyzing data. Your internship would involve work with real-life leaders in laboratory settings which requires social skills and high levels of reliability and responsibility.

What you can expect from us?
At the TUM-IML you will find a very open and joyful work environment and a diverse and international team. We are happy to integrate you into our daily work routine and our team-events. You will be able to learn about how to apply cognitive and neuroscientific methods in the context of organizational research, how to design and implement laboratory studies, how to measure EEG and eye tracking, and how to handle resulting data. Furthermore, working with us will give you the opportunity to get a thorough background on evidence-based leadership strategies. At the TUM School of Management, you will work at one of the biggest and one of the most successful (e.g., in terms of scientific output) management schools in Germany and Europe.

2 years of bachelor studies completed
