Project Description

Project description:

Topic: Audio-visual virtual reality in the real-time Simulated Open Field
Environment
The new real-time Simulated Open Field Environment (rtSOFE) can
simulate and reproduce audio-visual environments in the new anechoic
chamber at TUM. A fast room-acoustics simulation tool allows participants
to interactively move sources in virtual rooms and create the sound
reflections that determine hearing in rooms. The audio system is
accompanied by a video projection system to create visual 3D worlds and
motion tracking. This project will create an interactive demonstration of the
capabilities of the virtual reality system using a game engine. The project
steps are:
- Familiarization with virtual acoustics, the room acoustics model and the
visual simulation tool (Unreal Engine)
- Creation of a 3D model of the environment
- Generation of the acoustical 3D model of the environment
- Definition and implementation the interaction in the game engine
- Tests and verifications (Matlab).

Working hours per week planned:

40
