Joint Academy of Doctoral Studies

Imperial College London and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have launched a Joint Academy of Doctoral Studies (JADS) with the aim of fostering closer collaboration between London and Munich research, innovation and education communities.

The Joint Academy of Doctoral Studies is a bilateral, cross-disciplinary programme aimed at fostering research collaborations at the doctoral level and beyond, in fields that are highly relevant to both Imperial College London and TUM. JADS involves a competitive application process with a different theme for each cohort. The topics shall address grand societal challenges to research and involve several schools and departments on both sides.

The cohorts start in October each year. The first cohort researches within the theme "Artifical Intelligence, Robotics and Healthcare". The cohort 2021 focusses on the theme of "Mathematics of Information: Theory and Application". Cohort 2022 funds proposals in the area of "Circular Economy": this cohort has been merged with cohort 2023 on the theme of "Transition to Zero Pollution".
