Eden2020, which stands for Enhanced Delivery Ecosystem for Neurosurgery in 2020, is a platform to create a treatment system for neurosurgery. Its main goal is a minimal invasiveness and a compact solution, i.e. needed technologies are integrated into one single system.
In particular, it includes technologies like a pre-operative MRI and diffusion-MRI imaging system, an intra-operative ultrasounds-system, a robotic-assisted catheter steering, a brain diffusion modelling and robots, that assist during neurosurgery. It increases the effectiveness of a neurosurgery and helps to improve the treatment.
In order to track the effectiveness of this product, following objectives have been aimed:
- With the use of robotic catheters, the placement of neurological instruments are much more precise and garantuee a very less disruption of the brain structures.
- By integrating a large number of sensors, a new control system for catheter integration is integrated, which allows the surgeon to have an outlook over the complexities of tissue deformation and the tool-tissue dynamics.
- A fusion of MRI images and a live 3D ultrasounds imaging is created by implementing parallel processing and new deformable registration algorithms to overcome the state of the art imaging modalities which often provide bad image resolutions and contains imaging artifacts
- The brain complexity often causes a lack of modeling the drug diffusion process. By using moderng imaging techniques, histological and microstructural analysis, the flow and structure in the brain can be better visualized by a computational model, which helps planning the treatment
- Integration of in vivo disgnostic for flexibility during the surgery
- Collect data for neurosurgical drug diffusion modeling and build a database system in order to enable collaboration
- The robotic assistant of EDEN2020 project, the Neuromate system, will be continuosly developed by extending the range of its applicable procedures

Overall, EDEN2020 attempts to provide a single system or neurosurgical disgnostics and therapy. Besides that, it collects data for research purposes and give access to scientists, where there is hardly or not enough testing ground truth.
