Brain tumor symptoms are associated with the type, the size and the location of the tumor and are related to the functional areas of the brain. The most general symptoms are headaches (which do not respond to usual remedies), seizures, changes in personality, problems with memory, fatigue and depression. [1] [2]
The following are symptoms related to functional areas of the brain (according to [3]):
Tumor in the frontal lobe:
- Problems with concentration.
- Problems with speech and communication.
- Problems with controlling emotions and behaviour.
- Problems with learning new information.
Tumor in the temporal lobe:
- Problems with hearing.
- Problems with speech.
- Problems with identifying and categorising objects.
- Problems with learning new information.
- Problems with correctly identifying emotions in others.
Tumor in the parietal lobe:
- Problems with combining information from different senses.
- Problems with motor coordination.
- Problems with spatial awareness.
- Problems with speech, understanding words, writing and reading.
Tumor in the occipital lobe:
- Problems with vision.
Tumor in the cerebellum:
- Problems with balance.
- Problems with motor coordination.
- Problems with walking.
- Flickering of the eyes.
- Vomiting.
- Stiff neck.
Tumor in the brain stem:
- Problems with walking.
- Facial weakness.
- Double vision.
- Problems with speech and swallowing.
