The following candidates are running for a total of three positions.

Brent Fielden

Center for Nanoscience (ZNN)

My name is Brent, and I am a PhD student at the Center for Nanoscience (ZNN) specializing in biomolecular nanotechnology. Before joining TUM, I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Nano-Science at the University of Tübingen. As an international student, I know firsthand the challenges of navigating the academic landscape in Germany. I want to use these experiences to support fellow doctoral candidates, both by helping them navigate the program and by ensuring that their voices are heard in the governing bodies of NAT and TUM. I would be honored to represent you.

Paula Neumann

Email: p.neumann@tum.de

Chair of Physical Chemistry

My name is Paula and I am currently in the second year of my PhD here at TUM at the Chair of Physical Chemistry. Since I also completed my bachelor's and master's degree at TUM, this is a good opportunity for me to contribute my experience from the Chemistry section of NAT to the work of our doctoral representatives.
Speaking of the transition to NAT, I see an important goal here in bringing together our doctoral students to eventually pass from different faculties to one school. That way, sharing resources, improving communication, and, ideally, the bureaucratic processes of being a doctoral student will become easier.
I think our working environment will benefit greatly if everyone feels part of the doctoral community. In that sense, I am looking forward to organizing events from job fairs to social gatherings as it has been part of the work of our previous representatives.

Last but not least, I hope you will give me the chance to represent your interests as PhD students.

André Deyerling

Lehrstuhl für Topologie Korrelierter Systeme

My name is André Deyerling, and I have been a doctoral researcher at TUM for over three years. During this time, I have not only gained academic experience but also had the opportunity to actively contribute to the doctoral community on a small scale through my involvement in the coordination of a graduate school within a CRC. I have organized events that encouraged both scientific exchange and networking among peers.

As a doctoral representative, I would like to build on this experience and further strengthen the doctoral community at the TUM School of Natural Sciences .
In particular, I would like to:

  • Establish semi-regular lecture-style talks on diverse career and research-related topics, offering an accessible platform for knowledge sharing and inspiration.

  • Enhance networking opportunities for doctoral candidates across disciplines, to encourage collaboration and mutual support.

  • Contribute to a fair and transparent distribution of teaching duties, ensuring balanced workloads and a constructive dialogue between doctoral candidates and faculty.

I am motivated to represent the interests of my fellow doctoral researchers and to help create a supportive environment for us all.
