Abstract

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to present the development of an interactive web
experience for the visitors of Veitshof. The primary objective of the project is to enhance
an educational and recreational experience by creating virtual elements, that are placed
in a real world surrounding.
The Augmented Reality (AR) elements are designed to provide informative and
interactive content related to various aspects of the farm. Some of this aspects include
the nutrient cycle from the harvest to the feeding of the cows and returning manure to
the fields, certain behavioral aspects of the cows, as well as the topics of milk production
and quality control.
Key components of the project include the development of a responsive web applica-
tion using Vue.js, to ensure that users only need their smartphones with GPS sensors
and internet connectivity to acces the AR features making the experience accesible
without needing additional hardware.
The thesis documents the development process, from initial concept and planning
through technical implementation and testing. It also looks at the difficulties encoun-
tered and solutions found to deliver an AR experience in an outdoor environment.

Conclusion

The aim of this thesis was to present the development process of a robust foundation for
a future web application. The goal of the web application is to offer visitors at Veitshof
an interactive experience by integrating AR elements into the real-world environment.
The thesis’s objective was achieved by developing a responsive web application using
Vue.js, allowing users to access the AR features only by using their smartphones. This
approach ensures that the experience is widely accessible, without the need of special
hardware.
The challenges encountered during the development process, as well as the technical
details of the implementation were presented in detail, demonstrating the potential of
AR in enhancing educational experiences.
Future work could expand on this foundation by integrating dynamic loading of
the 3D models and virtual content for a better scalability of the application, as well as
improving the UI for a more user-friendly interface.
