New at University?
First things first: A warm welcome to TUM!
We’re glad to have you on board – below you will find all the important IT information.
Your TUM account is central for everyday use, as it provides access to TUMonline, your work laptop, and many other services.
For this, you need your TUM ID (e.g., go42tum) and your password (View TUM Account Instructions). If you have forgotten it, you can find the details for a reset here.
A detailed guide for the initial setup is available here.
For the TUMCard – the TUM staff ID – you can read the application instructions here. If you are employed temporarily, you must validate the card upon extension; the steps can be viewed on the following page.
You connect to Eduroam.
For this, you need your TUM ID (e.g., go42tum):
- Identity: go42tum@eduroam.mwn.de
- Password: TUM password (same as for TUMonline, Moodle, …)
Further information, including about VPN and other options, can be found here; for other internet services, see here.
By default, you have a TUM email address linked to your TUM ID. You can keep this as a forwarding address for life.
For webmail access, please use mail.tum.de.
Additional addresses can be created in TUMonline under ‘Email Addresses’.
Further information on usage options can be found here, and about Exchange here.
To obtain an email certificate, which serves as a digital ID, a detailed guide is available here.
If you want to back up data, TUM and the LRZ offer numerous options.
By default, NAS, Sync+Share, and OneDrive via M365 are provided for you. Please check with your team which systems are used and request access accordingly.
TUM centrally provides the campus management system TUMonline (TUMonline Instructions for Employees). In addition, all TUM PCs run with M365, provided you have activated it for the first time. Moodle serves as the central learning management system.
For both, you can log in with your TUM ID and TUM password.
Furthermore, we offer numerous software options for students; here you can find an overview and access to the offerings.
To create mailing lists, assign automated permissions by groups, or set up shared calendars, there are functional objects in TUMonline. Further details on finding and requesting these functions can be found here.
For mass emails, the contact points are the responsible departments:
- Staff: Corporate Communication Center
- Students: Center for Study and Teaching
To ensure IT security and regular maintenance, TUM issues managed devices. The focus here is on the TUM PC.
Both electronic devices and data carriers of all kinds must be disposed of properly at TUM. Further information can be found here.
TUM has numerous websites – the central starting portal is www.tum.de.
Important information can also be found in the Wiki, on the MyTUM portal, or in TUMonline.
There is also a portal for alumni.
If you need your own website under tum.de, you can request it here – a website under a School domain is requested via the responsible Vice Dean.
For your own Wiki, our IT support will be happy to assist you.
For online meetings, in addition to Teams, the LRZ offering is also available.
For better graphical presentation of content or any other eLearning questions, ProLehre is happy to assist.
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are also supported.
For scheduling and coordination, you are welcome to use the DFN scheduler.
For shared documents, in addition to OneDrive, ShareLaTeX is available. For storing materials that are not collaboratively edited in real time, please use the NAS drives.
For general questions, you should always contact IT support if in doubt (089 289 17123).
Please note that all requests should always be phrased politely and respectfully – we value a good community at TUM.
