FAQ
TOP-FAQ
I forgot my password for the TUM account. What can I do?
First of all, check whether you entered your password correctly, especially upper and lower case letters. Also, check whether you have the correct keyboard settings (Caps Lock, incorrect language layout).
If none of this helps, you can set a new password via the login page in TUMonline. (Step-by-step guide).
What is eduroam, and how can I use it?
Eduroam (www.eduroam.org) is an international initiative of universities that enables students and researchers to easily and freely use WiFi worldwide at all participating institutions.
In Munich, eduroam is available not only at university locations, but also at many public places such as Hauptbahnhof, Marienplatz, Stachus, and others.
Details on how to set it up can be found either at the LRZ or in the TUM internal instructions.
Students
- In rooms that are openly accessible to students (seminar rooms, lecture halls, libraries, etc.), eduroam is provided free of charge.
- If you know of places where students gather in groups and eduroam is missing, please inform us at it-support(at)tum.de. We will check whether access can be provided.
Employees
- For office and meeting rooms, a WLAN connection is generally not provided. If you still require one, you can arrange the connection through the LRZ. However, this will incur costs, which must be covered by your unit.
If you are considering installing your own WLAN access points, approval from the LRZ is required.
Lecturers
The WLAN access points (‘eduroam’) installed in the seminar rooms can reach their capacity limits when many devices are connected simultaneously.
If eduroam does not work reliably, please let us know. We aim to optimize WLAN usage for you and your students and rely on your feedback. To process your request quickly and accurately, please provide us with the following information in this case.
How can I download free software?
All centrally provided software offerings for TUM members, e.g., from Microsoft, MathWorks, Sophos, etc., can be found in our software wiki.
Additional offerings:
- Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ)
- Schools: Please contact your school, or students contact their student council.
Where can I find the templates for the TUM Corporate Design?
You can access the Corporate Design materials here. A login is required.
Where can I set up a TUM email address, and how can I access my emails?
You set up your TUM email address yourself in your TUMonline account:
Please note: TUM, and especially TUMonline, sends important messages to this address. It is therefore in your interest to check this mailbox regularly or to forward the emails received at this address.
Retrieve emails
If you set up forwarding, all emails will be sent to the mailbox you specify, and you can access them as usual. Further information can be found in the step-by-step guides above.
If you choose the ‘Exchange mailbox,’ you have three ways to access your emails:
