The corrosion measurement in concrete is performed to detect electrochemical oxidation processes on the rebar. The gradual process of carbonation lowers the pH of the concrete and the built-in steel can begin to rust. Reinforcement corrosion has a major impact on the life of structures and can cause a variety of consequential damage whose assessment is essential to its load-bearing capacity and usability. There are various methods for the evaluation of such damages, many testing procedures and inspection measures have been developed.

Non-destructive or minimally invasive methods have the advantage of capturing the damaged area and confining it locally without damaging the entire surface of the concrete cover.
